Charter From Dubai to Caracas…
Farcargo writes Faroese aviation history with a charter flight from Dubai to Caracas in Venezuela.
It is not often that a Faroese airline operates a charter flight spanning 4 continents, lasting 4 days, covering 17,470 nautical miles (32,355 km) with 3 crew changes and 8 landings.
But this is exactly what FarCargo’s Boeing 757-200 Cargo aircraft, Eysturoy, accomplished last weekend.
On Saturday, after flying salmon on the scheduled route to Dublin in Ireland, Eysturoy flew to Dubai to pick up just under 30 tons of cargo.
The course was then set for Caracas, Venezuela, landing at Simón Bolívar International Airport, with technical enroute stops in Bari (Italy), Keflavík (Iceland), Portsmouth, and Fort Lauderdale (USA).
The homebound trip from Fort Lauderdale to the Faroe Islands was flown direct, covering a distance of 3,776 nautical miles (6,975 km) with a flight time of 8 hours and 1 minute and to the author's knowledge, this is the longest non-stop flight into Vágar.
The Boeing 757-200 is a true workhorse, and just a few hours after landing in Vágar on Tuesday, it took off again with 35 tons of salmon, this time bound for Liége, Belgium.
